Morpheaform BCC Features

BCCmorphh1a

  • Nests typically appear as smaller aggregations and micronodules
  • Dispersed throughout the lower dermis

  • Even small nests appear significant different in texture and reflectivity from the surrounding dermis (*)
  • Adjacent nests can be connected by strands of basal cells causing an appearance similar to a bunch of grapes

BCCmorph2

  • Due to the nature of the nests they are often segregated by hyperreflective bands
  • These bands are due to collagen being compressed by adjacent nests and the production of sclerotic collagen bundles

  • In areas with less densley packed nests the increased hyperreflectivity bands of collagen (white arrows) are more likely sclerotic collagen opposed to compression
