Nests typically appear as smaller aggregations and micronodules
Dispersed throughout the lower dermis
Even small nests appear significant different in texture and reflectivity from the surrounding dermis (*)
Adjacent nests can be connected by strands of basal cells causing an appearance similar to a bunch of grapes
Due to the nature of the nests they are often segregated by hyperreflective bands
These bands are due to collagen being compressed by adjacent nests and the production of sclerotic collagen bundles
In areas with less densley packed nests the increased hyperreflectivity bands of collagen (white arrows) are more likely sclerotic collagen opposed to compression
